 Brent Couchman is a graphic designer/illustrator originally from Texas but currently based in San Francisco who has done some great branding work for Fossil  but what I didn't know is that he was the guy behind these Google Now backgrounds (last 4 images) that come up in the widget on my phone every day.  His work has been recognized by AIGA, Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, Print Graphis, The Eisner Museum of Advertising & Design, and ADC Young Guns 9.

Decided to compile a display of some 70 or so icons of the typical apps we have on our smartphones for visual comparison and further design appreciation.  Seeing these icons so much on a daily basis on our phones, we take for granted the effort put in to make a good icon--there are a LOT of bad app icons out there, given the number of apps on the market.  

Having a solidly constructed, minimal, and appealing icon to press at your thumbs really does add to the experience of using the app.  The branding power that these applications have in our heads is ingrained and wired into us, where Google obviously takes the cake here with their product application icon design.
