The Graphic Design of Call of Duty: Black Ops

Even if you've seen this intro animation already, try watching it again to see how many different designs you're able to spot. They move so damn fast, I doubt the human eye can catch up!

Like the millions of 18-25 year old males, I've spent more than a few hours playing Call of Duty.  When I saw the intro animation and cut scenes for the game, I couldnt help but notice so many well designed pieces that were being flipped through REALLY fast.  Like 5 different blips per second.  I'm not sure if any human is able to actually catch all that design just by watching it, try it for yourself.  It was only when I paused every 1/2 a second I was able to see all the beautiful typography and graphics by SPOV Design and Moving Image from London.  It makes me sad to see all this fantastic designs -- pages and pages of stuff that is flipped though in less than 1/5 of a second. Video found via our good blog friend Monsieur Bandit.

Free Moral Agents Show Flyer by Pedro Martinez

We haven't posted one of those random-show-flyers-we-come-across-that-are-actually-cool in a long while, but here's a pretty nicely done one for the Free Moral Agents playing at The Blue Cafe in Long Beach.  While some people might get all nit picky over certain details in this flyer, I think it works as what it is: disposable art that is used to get attention and produced in a quick and efficient manner.

Guinness Advertising Posters

We've never really done a beer based post before, so this is a first.  Guinness advertising dating back to the 1930s has built a reputable brand image through quick and easy ads that promoted the dark Irish beer in a cheery and joyful way.  English artist and illustrator John Gilroy has produced many of these posters, though I'm not quite sure as to which ones in particular he's responsible for.  I have to say, for a product like beer, these really do a dandy fine job in putting you in the mood to go out and grab a pint.

Also Guinness's website has taken the liberty in archiving a lot of the ads for both television and print.

Urban Style Design by Oz Montania

Oz Mantania is a graphic designer from Asuncion, Paraguay who loves urban art, graffiti, and illustration.  His posters have a very gritty but at the same time cool feel to them, and I think he has a really good art direction style especially with his colors and character design.
